IBM Power Ideas Portal

Shape the future of IBM!

We invite you to shape the future of IBM, including product roadmaps, by submitting ideas that matter to you the most. Here's how it works:

Post your ideas

Start by posting ideas and requests to this portal to enhance a Power product or service. Take a look at ideas others have posted and upvote them if they matter to you,

  1. Post an idea

  2. Upvote ideas and add comments to ideas that matter most to you

  3. Get feedback from the IBM team to refine your idea

Help IBM prioritize your ideas and requests

The IBM team may need your help to refine the ideas so they may ask for more information or feedback. The Power teams will then decide if they can begin working on your idea. If they can start during the next development cycle, they will put the idea on the priority list. Each team at IBM works on a different schedule, where some ideas can be implemented right away, others may be placed on a different schedule.

Receive notification on the decision

Some ideas can be implemented at IBM, while others may not fit within the development plans for the product. In either case, the team will let you know as soon as possible. In some cases, we may be able to find alternatives for ideas which cannot be implemented in a reasonable time.

Windows Network Neighborhood access disabled for user - enabled automatically after some time.

One of the most annoying things is when the Windows Network Neighborhood access is disabled because there is a difference in the credentials for the user on the as/400 and the windows server the user is trying to access. Often it is because they h...

Get dates for NetServer API's

None of the existing NetServer API's return: 1. Creation date of a share 2. Date last changed of a share. 3. Date last used of a share Use Case: Automate cleanup of existing shares based on these dates (and others). But in general it would be good...

Add copy while active parameter to CPY, CPYFRMIMPF, CPYFRMSTMF commands

The CPY, CPYFRMIMPF, and CPYFRMSTMF commands will not copy the contents of a file which is currently open for update. User applications which import text files uploaded into IFS directories from applications like MS Excel fail because Excel retain...

CPYTOSTMF needs CHGDATE parameter like CPYSRCF ... SRCCHGDATE()

When using CPYTOSTMF, e.g. to copy source members from a source physical file to the IFS, for example, to populate git or some other source code version control repository, CPYTOSTMF always assigns the current date/time to the *STMF created. We wa...

Create NetServer commands

The core O/S lacks decent command support for NetServer. There is an alternative solution in QUSRTOOLS (NETSRVCMD library) but I think this should be implemented in the core O/S. With the new ACS defining shares is not possible and in the old prod...

IFS streamfiles need additional OIR-like attributes

IFS streamfiles have a number of attributes, many seem IBM i (OS/400) specific, visible via WRKLNK option 8=Display attributes, and can be specified or changed via the CHGATR command ATR parameter, such as: *CCSID, *ALWCKPWRT, *USECOUNT, *DISKSTGO...
