IBM Power Ideas Portal

This portal is to open public enhancement requests against IBM Power Systems products, including IBM i. To view all of your ideas submitted to IBM, create and manage groups of Ideas, or create an idea explicitly set to be either visible by all (public) or visible only to you and IBM (private), use the IBM Unified Ideas Portal (https://ideas.ibm.com).

Shape the future of IBM!

We invite you to shape the future of IBM, including product roadmaps, by submitting ideas that matter to you the most. Here's how it works:

Search existing ideas

Start by searching and reviewing ideas and requests to enhance a product or service. Take a look at ideas others have posted, and add a comment, vote, or subscribe to updates on them if they matter to you. If you can't find what you are looking for,

Post your ideas
  1. Post an idea.

  2. Get feedback from the IBM team and other customers to refine your idea.

  3. Follow the idea through the IBM Ideas process.

FOM Design Change Request

In the event of FOM related failures, current standard recovery procedures are causing longer service outages, which have a greater impact on business. For banking customers, all FC adapters are redundant by FOM, so in case of failure immediate take over is required.

EMXO and PCIe is a hardware subsystem and hypervisor firmware can only initiate link training. If link goes down, hypervisor is notified to log and start HW recovery.

Regarding EEH handling, when PCIe link is down, PCIe bus is frozen. AIX starts EEH timer when the driver learns bus is frozen on card by card basis.

“pcibus_eeh_perm_timeout” is a parameter for base set point. Default is 300s and current setting for KEB Hana Bank is 30s.

This value, 30s is too long for KEB Hana Bank

AIX is not considering support of pcibus_eeh_perm_timeout values of less than 30 seconds. 30 seconds is a common timeout value for read/write operations to storage. read/write timeouts are far more common events than EEH. AIX development does not see an overall value of allowing lower pcibus_eeh_perm_timeout value than 30 seconds.

AIX is considering updates to future releases that would improve MPIO error detection and failover times caused by EEH events. However, nothing is committed to plan at this point.
