AIX rsyslog compiled with omkafka (Kafka module)

Addition of the Kafka module to AIX rsyslog.

Request to compile AIX rsyslog with omkafka module because this is needed in our production and homologation servers in domain XRC (Customer Relationship applications)

    .The support for omkafka is available in 7.3 TL2 expansion pack.

    This cannot be made available on AIX 7.2, as this librdkafka has a dependency on libcurl. And libcurl is only available on AIX 7.3.

    Hello,

    Our wish was to have a complete rsyslog and kafka module support, so we would have preferred to port the 'librdkafka' library to AIX and not depend on an opensource library.

    Need some feedback about this request. omkafka module of rsyslog is dependent on 'librdkafka' which is another opensource library. Since this is not available in AIX, we would need to port this too, in order for rsyslog to support omkafka module. We are evaluating how this can be shipped in AIX.


    One option is librdkafka can be released in AIX toolbox - https://www.ibm.com/support/pages/aix-toolbox-open-source-software-downloads-alpha


    Users of rsyslog who need omkafka module should download and install librdkafka from AIX toolbox. Note that AIX toolbox packages are not officially supported by IBM. This would mean that rsyslog and omkafka module will be supported, but any problem in librdkafka will not be supported.


    We would like feedback on whether this is acceptable to AIX customers. This would help us understand how to move forward on omkafka support for rsyslog.
