The AIX iSCSI sw initiatior problems are only supported when the iSCSI target is also AIX. This makes iSCSI a non-option in the AIX world.
IBM needs to support the iSCSI sw initiator as a standards-based adapter for it to be relevant.

supported IBM branded iSCSI target devices are described on IBM System Storage Interoperation Center (SSIC) website. Additionally the SSIC website indicates: If a desired configuration is not available for selection in the above search interface, a SCORE/RPQ should be submitted to IBM requesting approval. To submit a SCORE/RPQ please contact your IBM Representative.
For 3rd party (non IBM branded) iSCSI attached storage, several storage attachment vendors make claims of AIX iSCSI support on the vendor's website.
