This portal is to open public enhancement requests against IBM Power Systems products, including IBM i. To view all of your ideas submitted to IBM, create and manage groups of Ideas, or create an idea explicitly set to be either visible by all (public) or visible only to you and IBM (private), use the IBM Unified Ideas Portal (https://ideas.ibm.com).
We invite you to shape the future of IBM, including product roadmaps, by submitting ideas that matter to you the most. Here's how it works:

When an LPAR or Manage System reported an event that will require parts replacement, the HMC and LPAR be should be in sync about the call home event. The native syslog and its default reporting tool that comes with AIX may not be sufficient. A good example was the IBM case reference 64812,7td. The frame had a call home and needs hdisk replacement. Our Data Center Group was notified by IBM we would like to know when these things happen prior to when IBM notifies us. The
system does report the error but those are "standard" disk error which is also the same label we normally see when SAN disks or SAN related events during maintenance. Having a "specific event" that Is HMC call
home related can make a difference to separate the real event that require attention against events that is more like a noise events we would normally see in scheduled maintenance. I would also argue that the LPAR or Manage System should be the authoritative Alerts mechanism for any hardware related failure. Fetching hardware events from HMC is one thing but it present lots of challenges due to the nature of HMC itself.
