File size has zero byte after a crash and reboot

The client BOSCH has the problem, that after a crash and the following reboot some files have a size of only 0 bytes. It happens if the root cause for the crash is within a filesystem, but can also happen with other filesystems.
Sometimes the crash can be recovered without a reboot. But if then the system is rebooted at a later time, then also the file size is 0 bytes.

The root cause has never been detected. Now there is an enhancement in AIX (syncd runs as a single thread for each filesystem) which helped to solve a few problem,s but not all of them. This has been confirmed by the lab.

A PMR (52902,070,724) and complaint (AJ7244) has been opened.

was working on the PMR a recommended to open a DCR to "If customer would have got any warnings from syncd that the files could
not be synced this would have been useful to get the data before reboot".

Basically his requirement is that syncd should report in the errpt if it is unable to sync data to the disk which would help the customer to take action before rebooting the system, like taking backup of the data while the system is still up and running.

.The requested function was delivered in AIX 7.1 TL4 and in AIX 7.2. A tunable was added to the 'ioo' command to allow the system to report when a sync operation takes longer than a specified amount of time. See the j2_syncDelayReport option documented in the ioo command description.

Note that the message is directed to the syslog file rather than the error report, and it requires that /etc/syslog.conf be set up to monitor "kern" messages at the warning level.
