Concurrent Change of POWER Compatibility Mode

Currently the change of the processor compatibility mode requires the reboot of the related AIX Logical Partition (LPAR). Particularly during a hardware upgrade through Live Partition Mobility (LPM) to systems of the next processor generation the dynamic change of the compatibility mode is the last obstacle to make the end to end upgrade process fully concurrent.

This enhancement should allow for compatibility mode changes through the Dynamic Reconfiguration (DR) framework which provides the functionality to concurrently change partition characteristics today.

The requested feature is not feasible. Dynamically changing the processor mode creates exposures when processor functions that software and middle-ware depend on disappear when the processor mode is changed. Thus, a reboot is required in order to allow software and middle-ware to adjust to the new processor mode.
