AIX support of Drepper SHA512

Submitted on behalf of Adam Moore - UNIX Security Engineering

AIX currently supports the use of an SHA512 based password encryption algorithm for the storage of user passwords using a proprietary algorithm based on PKCS #5 v2.1 based encryption standards. This is incompatible with the de facto standard SHA512 “Drepper” password encryption algorithm used in virtually all other Unix and Linux variants. This is preventing us from using secure SHA512 based password hashes on AIX as the Drepper SHA512 hashes generated by our centralized authentication mechanisms are not compatible with AIX.
