Support for AgentX in AIX

Several software vendors provide SNMP monitoring facilities for their applications, implemented as sub-agents. In many cases, these utilise the AgentX protocol for communication with a master agent. Currently, this requires a third-party SNMP master agent which supports AgentX (e.g., net-snmp) to be installed.

Support for the AgentX protocol should be provided in AIX.

Related: In the longer-term, AIX support for AgentX may allow for security improvements, such as not requiring community strings for communication between snmpmibd and snmpd, which currently use dpiv2 for communication). See above PMR for more details on this.

    IBM has evaluated the priority of this enhancement proposal relative to other future product content and determined that this RFE will not be pursued for a future product release
