IBM Power Ideas Portal

This portal is to open public enhancement requests against IBM Power Systems products, including IBM i. To view all of your ideas submitted to IBM, create and manage groups of Ideas, or create an idea explicitly set to be either visible by all (public) or visible only to you and IBM (private), use the IBM Unified Ideas Portal (https://ideas.ibm.com).

Shape the future of IBM!

pv_pbuf_count reset after exportvg

Patrice Quet - 33(1) 58 50 69 78
It is possible to modify pv_pbuf_count value using lvmo command for a specific VG.
This value is kept into the ODM oif the concerned LPAR (CuAt)
After exportvg and importvg of that VG, pv_pbuf_count is resetted to default value.

Added new options to importvg/exportvg to backup and restore lvmo tunables. This is delivered in AIX 7.2 TL 03.

exportvg [-b] - Backs up the performance tunable parameters of the volume group that are set with the lvmo command.
importvg [ -r file_name ] - Restores the performance tunable parameters of the volume group.

lvmo tunables are not maintained in LVM metadata because of following reasons:

    - lvmo tunables may not same in all nodes . For example with PowerHA in an enhanced concurrent volume group, the passive node may not need the
same number of pbufs as the active node.
    - There is no space in LVM on-disk metadata layout to save lvmo tunables.

A solution to migrate tunables with a volume group is to backup lvmo tunables before exporting the VG and to restore them after importing the VG. A sample script called ???lvmo_tool" is provided in IBM Developerworks to demonstrate this. The lvmo_tool can be found at
    https://www.ibm.com/developerworks/community/wikis/home?lang=en#!/wiki/Power%20Systems/page/LVMO%20tool%20for%20migrating%20LVM%20performance%20tuning%20values

An enhancement to backup and restore of lvmo tunables as part of the exportvg/importvg commands is under consideration for next year's AIX TL uddate. We do not have space in VGDA to keep pv_pbuf_count.
