Support LTO9 with SAS and FC direct attach on AIX

There are many cases which it is necessary to backup AIX to external media.

We and BPs have proposed RDX or LTO before, but we are now guided to propose only LTO.

There are currently some problems on proposing LTO.  Now AIX only supports LTO8 via SAS and LTO9 via FC needs SAN Switch.

  • The fact that it only supports LTO8(SAS) gives the market an outdated impression.
  • In case of proposing AIX system without an external storage, we have to add SAN Switches only for Tape connection. This is a distorted proposal and will increase costs, so customers will find it difficult to accept it.
  • I know that USB memory is available for AIX mksysb, but in some cases, USB memory sticks are prohibited from being brought into data centers.

So, the followings are my requests.

  • AIX support LTO9(SAS).
  • LTO9(FC) is supported on AIX with direct attach.
