Examples of adoption include Java 8, which supports 1873 (Meiji 6) and forward.
Recent era dates are Meiji 1 was 1868. Taisho 1 was 1912. Showa 1 was 1926. Heisei 1 was 1989. Heisei 31 will become a new era when the current emperor retires. The new era name will be published in February, 2019 by the Japanese National Diet.
Months are the same as ISO months. Year 1 begins when the new emperor ascedes to the throne. Year 2 and later begin January 1.
