We recently had an issue with new equipment were we were delayed in deployment for a few weeks because the network adapters weren't accessible to the customer's network.
We had worked with both IBM HW and SW support during this time, and it was eventually determined that there was a manufucturing issue where the adapters were sent with the wrong SFPs. In fact, they were shipped with a completely invalid SFP configuration.
But. no display option in AIX would show this configuration.
But this kind of information should be accessible to the OS. For instance, this information is present in Linux via "ethtool -m <adapter name>"
Had this information be present, we could have avoided weeks of delays, of which this issue was close to a crit-sit situation.
The end user case for this is most likley an enhancement to the "entstat" command, with appropriate device driver updates to support it.
FYI, the PMR was TS001236846, but this tool won't accept the new format.
