This portal is to open public enhancement requests against IBM Power Systems products, including IBM i. To view all of your ideas submitted to IBM, create and manage groups of Ideas, or create an idea explicitly set to be either visible by all (public) or visible only to you and IBM (private), use the IBM Unified Ideas Portal (https://ideas.ibm.com).
We invite you to shape the future of IBM, including product roadmaps, by submitting ideas that matter to you the most. Here's how it works:
Start by searching and reviewing ideas and requests to enhance a product or service. Take a look at ideas others have posted, and add a comment, vote, or subscribe to updates on them if they matter to you. If you can't find what you are looking for,
Post an idea.
Get feedback from the IBM team and other customers to refine your idea.
Follow the idea through the IBM Ideas process.

For the HMC Enhanced GUI: Under the partition list view, it's important to be able to get a compact overview of LPARs and their characteristics - ideally without scrolling. There are some current limitations to the visual representation - specifically the width of the information columns (e.g. RMC connection, parition ID, allocated resources) that could be improved upon (Enhanced was a great improvement already).
Being able to somehow compress these columns (and tighten up the rows, but that's another matter)
would be great. Some are somewhat collapsable, but only to a small degree. For examples:
The header Partition ID takes up a lot of space, but the actual ID doesn't - it's wasted space in the data rows (white space is good, but it's too much). Some columns are somewhat collapsable, but not enough (and it then cuts the useful part of the headers off). In addition, they may not be collapsable ENOUGH because no word wrapping is allowed in the headers.
Some potential ideas for solutions:
(a) Change the headers to shortened names. Partition ID could become P. ID for example. Same for Reference Code (Ref Code), Attention LED (LED), Processor Allocated (Proc or CPU), Allocated Virtual Processor (VP), etc.
(b) Alternatively, allowing those column headers to text wrap [AND allowing further shrinking of the column width] would also solve the problem - easily done with CSS/HTML. For example, if keeping "Allocated Virtual Processor (VP)" column header was important, then allowing that to wrap when a customer squeezed the column down would be great: they can still see the full header, but tighten the column to the data width (or at least closer).
(c) Use the hover tooltips - this could be complimentary to (a) or (b). You already have those tooltips ("Atention LED - click to sort...."). That's a great place for an expanded description. So, for example, you could shorten the visible column name to "LED" (to allow column width compression) but still keep the expanded description in the tooltip for people to read if they want to.
Or some combination of the above.

Hi,
We will make incremental changes to the table display so that more columns can be viewed in a much more compact way.
Thanks.
