HMC mail sender

The function "Event Notification" allows you to let the HMC send out an email in the case of issues. The sender of this mails is derived from the name you have given the HMC.
The syntax of the mail address:
<Console name>@<
Console name>. <Domain name>
Due to the fact that more and more emphasis is on security and spam. We see that SMTP traffic through i.e. office365 does not allow this kind of sender address.

    Hello,

The link given does address what is asked for in this RFE. The fact that only a command line solution is provided does not fill the need for the HMC GUI interface.

When working with a GUI as the HMC is, the option to change the sender mail address needs to be in the GUI and should not be limited to a command line command only. After all this is an action which nearly every HMC end customer I have spoken has on his wish list, all of them have limited HMC knowlegde.

The command which needs to executed "chsacfg -t email -o addfrom -a myuser@mycompany.com" is straightforward, but what do you think a customer prefers this command or an option in the GUI.

I find it hard to explain to an end customer that the GUI does not have the option to do something as simple as changing the sending mail address.

I do understand that not everything can be added in the GUI, but this is a basic function and since the rest of the mail setup is in the GUI, I think the requested function needs to be added.

Please fell 100 % free to disagree, after all it is just my opinion.

    Greetings Rudi

    Hi Rudi,

We have evaluated the request and there is an option in the chsacfg command to modify the email address from which the customer notifications will be sent.
https://www.ibm.com/support/knowledgecenter/9119-MHE/p8edm/chsacfg.html . Can you please check this option and let us know if this addresses the requirement?

    Thanks.

The CEAC has reviewed this requirement and recommends that IBM view this as a HIGH priority requirement that is important to address.

This is a significant restriction in functionality, with no workaround and as an HMC's key function is to monitor we feel this needs to be addressed quickly.

Background: The COMMON Europe Advisory Council (CEAC) members have a broad range of experience in working with small and medium-sized IBM i customers. CEAC has a crucial role in working with IBM i development to help assess the value and impact of individual RFEs on the broader IBM i community and has therefore reviewed your RFE.

To find out how CEAC help to shape the future of IBM i, see CEAC @ ibm.biz/BdYSYj and the article "The Five Hottest IBM i RFEs Of The Quarter" at ibm.biz/BdYSZT
