Automated restore of VIOS Backup on new Disks from installios Command

In a case of DR (all VIOS disks failed) we want to do a restore of the full VIOS Backup on new Disks.


If the Backup is done on a mirrored VG (what is the default case) the restore fails on new disks while they are not already in a vg and mirrored.

A workaround is to wait until the VIOS boots up into the image after trigger the installios command. Then interrupt the automated VIOS restore and get into the Restore menu. Here I am able to define the 2 new disks as install targets and then everything works fine.


It would be awesome to get an installios argument to boot into this menu or to say "use any new disk you'll find".
