This portal is to open public enhancement requests against IBM Power Systems products, including IBM i. To view all of your ideas submitted to IBM, create and manage groups of Ideas, or create an idea explicitly set to be either visible by all (public) or visible only to you and IBM (private), use the IBM Unified Ideas Portal (https://ideas.ibm.com).
We invite you to shape the future of IBM, including product roadmaps, by submitting ideas that matter to you the most. Here's how it works:

Update: We have since migrated all of our HMC's to the very latest V10. I think the cli commands and limitations for firmware updates are still the same. Are there any updates on V10 getting this additional firmware functionality?
"if it helps this is possible via the GUI in the browser rather than the updlic command."
>>> yes we're aware and thanks. We have heavily automated our environment where this feature is truly needed in CLI. Also, it just makes sense to keep the CLI features in step with the GUI - there truly should be no disparity.
If it helps this is possible via the GUI in the browser rather than the updlic command. Simply select multiple managed systems and under actions you can perform the update firmware with all selected systems, progress is shown for all systems during the update. I have used this a few times without issue.
It should be noted that HMC V9 support is due to end of April 2023 so it's unlikely any new functionality will be added at this end stage of support. This is an excellent table showing the upgrade paths for V10 if you are still running V9 - https://www.ibm.com/support/pages/recommended-fixes-hmc-code-upgrades
