Add Native SAML 2.0 and OpenID Connect (OIDC) Single Sign-On Support to IBM HMC

Many enterprise customers are moving away from LDAP- and AD-based authentication and standardizing on centralized identity providers and Single Sign-On (SSO) solutions such as Microsoft Entra ID, Ping Identity, Okta, and IBM Verify.

Today, HMC authentication requires local accounts, LDAP, Kerberos, or Active Directory integration, which makes HMC an exception in otherwise federated enterprise environments. Native support for SAML 2.0 and OpenID Connect (OIDC) would allow organizations to use the same authentication platform, MFA policies, conditional access controls, and user lifecycle management they use for other enterprise applications.

Ideally, administrators would be redirected to their enterprise identity provider, authenticate using existing SSO and MFA mechanisms, and have HMC roles assigned through group or claim mappings. This would improve security, simplify administration, reduce reliance on LDAP, and better align HMC with modern enterprise identity standards.
