This portal is to open public enhancement requests against IBM Power Systems products, including IBM i. To view all of your ideas submitted to IBM, create and manage groups of Ideas, or create an idea explicitly set to be either visible by all (public) or visible only to you and IBM (private), use the IBM Unified Ideas Portal (https://ideas.ibm.com).
We invite you to shape the future of IBM, including product roadmaps, by submitting ideas that matter to you the most. Here's how it works:
Start by searching and reviewing ideas and requests to enhance a product or service. Take a look at ideas others have posted, and add a comment, vote, or subscribe to updates on them if they matter to you. If you can't find what you are looking for,
Post an idea.
Get feedback from the IBM team and other customers to refine your idea.
Follow the idea through the IBM Ideas process.

Please let us know if the tools mentioned in the previous comment address your requirements.
With the current manual remote restart, user or admin ensures that the system is actually crashed and partitions are down before initiating a RR. Even in no connection state, the command requires a override for this purpose that the restart should not be triggered if the system/partitions are online. In case of automated remote restart, the orchestrator has to ensure the system is actually down and in case the network connection to the system is lost, then it could be possible that its a network problem and not an actual crash. There are challenges like fencing off storage on source system to avoid partition accessing the storage from 2 places inadvertently (and HMC cannot fence off the storage) in supporting Automated RR via HMC.
However, if you are not using PowerVC, there is a tool PowerVM SRR Automation tool which can be used. The tool provides a GUI and a mechanism to create a plan with the source/target system specifications, any mappings required on target and then in case of a crash you could use the tool to trigger the RR and it would perform the RR as per the created plan. The tool also supports bringing back the partitions to the source as needed. Please see ibm.biz/SRR_tool for an example of how the tool works.
Hello,
Let's assume we don't have PowerVC, so being able to define like a host group concept from the HMC to automatically trigger RR is case of system failure is what we are looking for.
Hi,
Thanks for the RFE request. By "pre-define source & target" - does this mean, you would like to create a plan upfront and then manually trigger the remote restart in case of a system failure or power failure?
or Are you looking at a host groups concept similar to PowerVC and also for HMC to automatically trigger the RR in case of system or power failure?
Thanks.
