IBM i Access Client Solutions - Require Keep Alive parameter to avoid timeouts

We have several LOB's that use DSP01 (LAN Console) to run overnight batch due to the ability to pass the console onto different regions when shifts change. Since we have moved our LPARS behind secure firewalls the 60 minute timeout of the firewalls is forcing DSP01 to re-connect due to 60+ minute inactivity. We have found that using iSeries Access for Windows has a utility called the Communications Power tool (CWBCOPWR.EXE) that will allow its version of LAN Console to use a keep alive timeout. A console obtained via the HMC does not timeout at all, but our preference going forward is to use ACS for all our Client connectivity. We are also noticing the timeout when working with Run SQL scripts.


Use Case:

Our LOB's have a long running overnight batch process that relies on human interaction. Some steps take longer than an hour to complete and the console appears to be active after an hour but in fact it is not and although the process is still continuing in the background there is no way of knowing that the process has stopped at a step waiting for a message wait and hence we have missed batch SLA's because we were not aware.

    This support is now available in version 1.1.7.2 dated October 2017.
    With the October 2017 update combined with IBM i PTFs MF64106 (release 7.2) or MF64107 (release 7.3) keep alive will be enabled by default for LAN console.
