Line-displacement when using HEX-Values (Windows 7)

A number of hex code characters that represent 5250 display attributes are commonly inserted into comment lines of source members. These characters would usually be rendered by client operating systems as a square box or other special symbol. Starting with Windows Vista, Windows and onwards, the operating system no longer renders many control characters, including the hex codes for 5250 display attributes. Instead of a square box, a zero width character is rendered by the operating system, which is invisible. This causes the remainder of the text on the comment line to appear shifted over by one column to the left in Remote Systems LPEX Editor.

Use Case:

To show such sources with a correct column alingnment.

Having a placeholder is a fine idea. Or honor the display-byte, so that it does the reverse image in RED or whatever - I'm new to this shop, and there is much use by existing staff (1 person) of these display-bytes to distinguish different kinds of comments and other items.

I think syntax-based colorization is fine, but others will not like losing this capability when they maybe work in SEU for a bit.

And I don't want any conflict here or surprises.

Are these display-bytes retained when saving from RDi? Then the placeholder is probably enough - one can always make comments be something more distinctive in the Appearance section of Preferences.

This RFE is consistent with our strategy and product roadmap and IBM is continuing to evaluate.
