IBM Power Ideas Portal

This portal is to open public enhancement requests against IBM Power Systems products, including IBM i. To view all of your ideas submitted to IBM, create and manage groups of Ideas, or create an idea explicitly set to be either visible by all (public) or visible only to you and IBM (private), use the IBM Unified Ideas Portal (https://ideas.ibm.com).

Shape the future of IBM!

We invite you to shape the future of IBM, including product roadmaps, by submitting ideas that matter to you the most. Here's how it works:

Memory page fault threshold alert in message queue in IBM i

If page fault numbers are more and created in system pools. Its not displayed or alerted in any message queue. We like to see set threshold value for each memory pool for *FIXED and *CALC and once the threshold value of page vault is reached. then the alert needs to be displayed in message queue for better monitoring of the page faults and performance management of server.

The CAAC has reviewed this requirement and recommends that IBM not implement this request.
The solution provided by the prior comment from IBM_Systems_Developer provides a way to send a message based upon a threshold level on a metric in a system monitor. That solution addresses the requirement this RFE asks for.

Background: The COMMON Americas Advisory Council (CAAC) members have a broad range of experience in working with small and medium-sized IBM i customers. CAAC has a key role in working with IBM i development to help assess the value and impact of individual RFEs on the broader IBM i community, and has therefore reviewed your RFE.

Starting in 7.2 Performance Tools provides System Monitoring support through IBM Navigator for i. (https://www.ibm.com/support/knowledgecenter/ssw_ibm_i_73/rzahx/rzahxmonsyscrt.htm). There are monitors defined for the Machine Pool and User Pool. A system monitor can be configured to monitor machine pool and user pool (average and maximum values). A threshold can be set for the number of faults per second at which point a defined action is triggered (to send a message, etc). The monitor values can be viewed with Performance Data Investigator : https://www.ibm.com/developerworks/community/wikis/home?lang=en#!/wiki/IBM%20i%20Technology%20Updates/page/System%20Monitors. If you would like to try these out, it is recommended to update to the latest HTTP PTFs and the most recent IBM Navigator for i PTFs (HTTP group will include the latest starting next week when it is updated): https://www.ibm.com/developerworks/community/wikis/home?lang=en#!/wiki/IBM%20i%20Technology%20Updates/page/PTFs.
    Will this satisfy your requirement?
