The support for Windows and .Net in IBM i Access Client Solutions is very poor at all. Very old CWBX.DLL for accessing DTAQ's, which is not thread ready, very old ADO.NET Support and the only comment is "Buy and use our extra Product DB2 Connect".
I am afraid that IBM still doesn't understand how to win Developers and with them customers for their phantastic Operating System and the best Database Server on this planet.
Microsoft open sourced nearly everything and you get all the Tools and Software for free to create amazing applications for so many different platforms incl. Oracle, MySQL, DB2 for Linux, Windows and AIX but not for IBM i...
Why don't you incl. the Entity Framework Support in the IBM ACS?
The customers have to pay for that Windows Package in ACS but they receive only old software for their money.
Why do you open IBM i on the one hand for Open Source Products like Node, Python, PERL and so on (I am very happy that you did that!!!) and on the other Hand you hold it closed to the .Net community (which is now running on Windows, Linux and Mac OS X)?
I would understand it, if you give the DB2 Connect to the Developers for free and want to have money from the customers using it at Runtime. But even this is not the case. So it looks like you don't want the .Net Software running together with IBM i....
I am very open for any comment and will be very happy if you can explain that behavior.
Entity Frameworks is available as part of IBM's DB2 Connect product. It will not be supported in the IBM i Access for Windows nor IBM i Access Client Solutions products.
