Information about different drivers to connect to iseries

We'd like to get a (really complete) documentation of all possibilities to connect a windows pc to the iSeries.
There exists a lot of drivers and software solutions. What we are missing is to see the difference between them.
E.g. i Series Access ODBC driver, ibmdrda, ibmsql400, jt400 (java), several possibilities using the DB2-Connect product, and so on.
We was not able to find out the differences between this drivers, but we'd like to know all the differences.
The difference between java and windows drivers are known but there are different java drivers and different windows drivers.
We wish one document with all possibilities and their differences.

IBM does not intend to provide a solution to this request at this time, so it is being closed.

The database team has a long list of higher priority requirements, so this request is not likely to be implemented anytime soon.

does this article exist? or are you still writing?

The CAAC has reviewed this requirement and recommends that IBM view this as a “nice to have” low priority feature. A source of comprehensive documentation of the options would alleviate some frustrations with finding the proper information.

Background: The COMMON Americas Advisory Council (CAAC) members have a broad range of experience in working with small and medium-sized IBM i customers. CAAC has a key role in working with IBM i development to help assess the value and impact of individual RFEs on the broader IBM i community, and has therefore reviewed your RFE.

For more information about CAAC, see www.common.org/caac

For more details about CAAC's role with RFEs, see http://www.ibmsystemsmag.com/Blogs/i-Can/May-2017/COMMON-Americas-Advisory-Council-%28CAAC%29-and-RFEs/

we found out that the driver (e.g. ibmda400) has a big performance difference when it used in ms-access or sql-server.
in sql-server it is much slower than in ms-access (using the same select statement).
maybe there are additional parameters in sql-server that has to set correct?

a redbook for iseries and sql-server connections would be very useful.

    - specially we need an overview for all the parameters for the different drivers and for what this parameters are.
    - we found out that some drivers need that the database has a journal and some drivers don't need a journal.
    - diverences in the configuration of sql-server and normal client.
    - also the "login with windows-username" works different depending on the used driver.
    - what is the best driver for performance (for less data and for big data), and which one has the best security.

We're considering writing an article for IBM i developerWorks.
