FUSE - File System API

It would be appreciated if a user defines filesystem could be plugged into the IFS to enhance user defined connectivity


Use Case:

Use case 1 - Images in Db2 BLOB.
Imagine a user defined file system that maps BLOB into data that can be open by standard streamfile tooling. Editing images in a BLOB with Photoshop.

The same goes for html and webpages i generel. Store it in BLOB in DB2 bus could be accessed by mounting a filesystem that maps your own Db2 table structure.


Use case 2:
Making a user defined filesystem that masps source physical files. Make the attachable from GIT.

    IBM has no plans on delivering this in the next 12 months. We often revisit requests in the future, but rejecting and closing this RFE at this time.

    The COMMON Europe Advisory Council (CEAC) has reviewed this requirement and recommends that IBM view this as a high priority requirement that is important to address.

    For example gaining this functionality will help to simplify GIT implmetations & Integrations for ILE & RPG.

    Background: The CEAC members have a broad range of experience in working with small and medium-sized IBM i customers. CEAC has a crucial role in working with IBM i development to help assess the value and impact of individual RFEs on the broader IBM i community and has therefore reviewed your RFE.
