Enhance the BRMS Control Group Exit Program

In the BRMS Control Group Exit Program, add new exits related to how the control group ends (success/error/abnormal). This will assist with automation and monitoring, and should be called when the system has left restricted state (i.e. after restarting the controlling subsystem).


Use Case:

System: IBM i Backup Operations

Actor: Automation software

Use cases for the system:

Full system flashcopy backups
Monitoring success of backups

Scenario: The production LPAR is flashcopied and full system backups (SAVSYS etc) is performed in batch restricted state on the flashcopy LPAR. When the backups complete, the control group exit calls a 3rd party utility to indicate the control group is finished, and whether it ended with success, in error or abnormally. Based on the end state, the utility can complete the flashcopy process, run maintenance, generate reports, etc or alert an administrator that the backups have failed.

It will also allow us to capture the joblog from the backup (even if abnormal) and transfer it to another LPAR for retention.

    The BRMS team believes that the request described has been solved and is available with the following PTFs for release 7.4 - SI70368, for release 7.3 - SI70367 and for release 7.2 - SI70366.
