IBM Power Ideas Portal

This portal is to open public enhancement requests against IBM Power Systems products, including IBM i. To view all of your ideas submitted to IBM, create and manage groups of Ideas, or create an idea explicitly set to be either visible by all (public) or visible only to you and IBM (private), use the IBM Unified Ideas Portal (https://ideas.ibm.com).

Shape the future of IBM!

Stop monitoring non-observable code

Prevent non-observable functionality from being impacted by the process of code coverage.

When running a program under code coverage, the debug product is actually active but if said program calls another process, in which we have no control over what it does, that process activity is monitored and slowed by the debug activity.

We use a vendor product that performs all its database IO via SQL actions and when code coverage is turned on debugging is turned on and the details of the SQL processing are now logged. Despite the excessive job logs this slows the job down excessively, taking time away from being able to complete or analyze the results in a timely fashion.

Use Case:

In RDi I trigger code coverage via RSE objects filter., selecting the "Debug or Code Coverage (Service Entry)" menu option.
I then activate the code coverage feature.
Finally, I initiate the job that runs the covered program.

It calls another process (third party or internal it does not matter except it needs to process by running SQL statements).

Providing a solution to this request is somewhat complex but, after our initial investigation into the operating system impacts, we are adding this request to our team's list of work to do, though no commitment is made or implied. This request will be updated in the future if IBM implements it. IBM will use votes and comments from others in the community to help prioritize this request.
