Local Network Speed Test

This feature would allow ACS to help a user test the speed from their computer to the server. This could, potentially via the SSH protocol, write a file to the /tmp directory while logging transfer time, then download that same file after logging transfer time.

Use Case:

When setting up the IBM i server there is the chance there are bottlenecks with network speed OR a server process on the machine. To help eliminate a cause of network speed as an issue, this would give the user a way to quickly test, from their computer to server and back, that speed. This seems like a fairly straight forwward process and a VERY handy utility.

After further consideration, we have decided to decline this RFE at this time.

The CAAC has reviewed this requirement and recommends that IBM view this as a “nice to have” low priority feature. It would be useful when first setting up an environment.

Background: The COMMON Americas Advisory Council (CAAC) members have a broad range of experience in working with small and medium-sized IBM i customers. CAAC has a key role in working with IBM i development to help assess the value and impact of individual RFEs on the broader IBM i community, and has therefore reviewed your RFE.

IBM has received this requirement and is evaluating it. A response will be provided when evaluation is complete.
