DBCS Support for WSCST(*PDF)

When IBM came out woth PDF transform capabilities for Spool Files using Transfor Services 'WSCST(*PDF)' we were very excited. Our hope was that it would alleviate our current transform solution which takes a lot of development cycles to maintain. After a small bit of coding we were pushing our transforms for PDF through using WSCCT(*PDF). All looked great until we got to the double byte languates that we support. I guess we naively thought that "it would just work". We found that the generated double byte spool files were NOT seemlessly handled by transform services.

We would like to see Transform Services WSCST(*PDF) handle double byte spool files with the seemlessness that single byte spool files are handled. With no need for additional set up or changes to printer files.

Use Case:

Double Byte user generates a Spool File with Double Byte Characters in the output.

CPYSPLF WSCST(*PDF) is used on this spool file.

Intent is that this Spool File with DBCS characters is transformed to PDF.

The CAAC has reviewed this requirement and recommends that IBM view this as a high priority requirement that is important to be addressed. As businesses move into the international market, this becomes more of a "must have".

Background: The COMMON Americas Advisory Council (CAAC) members have a broad range of experience in working with small and medium-sized IBM i customers. CAAC has a key role in working with IBM i development to help assess the value and impact of individual RFEs on the broader IBM i community, and has therefore reviewed your RFE.

.We will consider this high-value enhancement as we make improvement to the TS1 PDF transform.

We recognize this as a very beneficial enhancement to the TS1 transform. We will add it to our list of worthwhile enhancements to pursue with any future update.
