%SCANRPL to replace only *FIRST or *LAST occurence

%SCANRPL is a nice and usefull function but sometimes we need to limit the replacement to the first or the last occurence.

Use Case:

When we use long varying strings with placeholders some of them are repeated and we cannot use %SCANRPL.

IBM does not intend to provide a solution to this request at this time, so it is being closed.

While we agree with the request, we do not currently plan to implement because the ILE RPG team has quite a long list of higher priority requirements, so this request is not likely to be implemented anytime soon.

The COMMON Europe Advisory Council (CEAC) has reviewed this requirement and recommends that IBM view this as a MEDIUM priority requirement that should be addressed.

Background: The CEAC members have a broad range of experience in working with small and medium-sized IBM i customers. CEAC has a crucial role in working with IBM i development to help assess the value and impact of individual RFEs on the broader IBM i community and has therefore reviewed your RFE.

To find out how CEAC help to shape the future of IBM i, see CEAC @ ibm.biz/BdYSYj and the article "The Five Hottest IBM i RFEs Of The Quarter" at ibm.biz/BdYSZT

The CAAC has reviewed this requirement and recommends that IBM view this as a “nice to have” low priority feature. There are scenarios in which this capability would be useful, but you could also code around it. This functionality can be done with a combination of various op codes and functions that already exist, but this function would make it easier to do that.

IBM has received the requirement and is evaluating it. IBM will provide a response after evaluation is complete.

I would also like to have the ability to specify the number of replacements. If that would be an option then %SCANRPLR, to start from the right side of the string, would also be helpful.
