Hosted IBM i PWRDWNSYS integration missing

When you have on an IBM i system a guest partition running IBM i, the vary on can start the partition. The vary off does not power down the partition in an orderly manner. When you run hosted Linux or AIX a vary of will shut the partition down in an orderly manner. By sending the shut down. Only IBM i hosted partitions are handled different here.

Use Case:

Be able to power down the hosting IBM i partition, Which will power down every IBM i client in an orderly manner, Instead of have to do this from every partition running IBM as a hosted partition.

    Source - Client

The CAAC has reviewed this requirement and recommends that IBM view this as a high priority requirement that is important to be addressed. Power monitoring needs to be possible from the hosting side.

Background: The COMMON Americas Advisory Council (CAAC) members have a broad range of experience in working with small and medium-sized IBM i customers. CAAC has a key role in working with IBM i development to help assess the value and impact of individual RFEs on the broader IBM i community, and has therefore reviewed your RFE.

    Hello Peter,

Thanks for your comment. To my knowlegde a NWSD hosting IBM i can be started with the vary on from IBM i, but the shutdown including a pwrdwnsys command on the guest partition is missing. This has been confirmed by IBM. So I must admit I am missing your point. Can you please explain in more detail?

    Greetings Rudi

This works fine, but you need to set the NWSD up with POWER Control *YES, have explicitly client and Server SCSI Virtual adapters pointing to one another (explicitly, not using the *ANY), and then set the Power Control on the Profile.

The COMMON Europe Advisory Council (CEAC) has reviewed this requirement and recommends that IBM view this as a medium priority requirement that should be addressed.

Background: The CEAC members have a broad range of experience in working with small and medium-sized IBM i customers. CEAC has a crucial role in working with IBM i development to help assess the value and impact of individual RFEs on the broader IBM i community and has therefore reviewed your RFE.
