Recover space on thin provisioned disks

IBM i doesn't currently support TRIM or UNMAP primitives which would allow the OS to mark space as free for the storage to reclaim. This limits the benefits of Thin Provisioning since once space is consumed it is never recovered during the life of the disk. Even doing some kind of garbage collection filling the unused space with zeroes would be an improvement since current storages (Storwize for example) have good zero detection/pattern removal/compression.

Use Case:

Allow the customer to better utilize their storage capacity leveraging the modern features provided by the storages.
