CRTIMGCLG vs Server NAS

We manage a Outsourcing Services for Banking and Insurance Customers. Our policies and the customer directives request to save (all days) the application libraries and data libraries in multiple copies on the physical media tape. Now we save on the virtual tape and after we duplicate from virtual tape to (physical) tape library. We wonder if it is possible to use a NAS Server for create the image catalog of the Virtual Tape (CRTIMGCLG command, DIR parameter).


Use Case:

Currently the CRTIMGCLG command doesn't support remote file systems in the DIR parameter (example of remote file systems: the one of a NAS Server).
So we kindly ask that the CRTIMGCLG supports these feature

    I've been thinking about creating a "noVTL" script, using Optical IMAGE CATALOGs. Today you can't save TAPE IMGCLG to a remote NFS, but you can do that with Optical (slower).
    You can create the ISO and Volume List on the NAS and point a Virtual Optical Device to the NAS, but you won't be able to duplicate on physical tapes (maybe on DVDs).

    Ideally the ability to create virtual tape AND optical files (including *RMS) on NFS shares is needed. Backfilled to V7R2 minimum release also highly desirable. While you are at it, why not support the VFYTYPE(*LIC) parameter on PWRDWNSYS *IMGCLG at V7R2?
