DECFLOAT datatype in RPG

With the arrival of the DECFLOAT datatype in Db2, it make sense to ba able to have a native representation in RPG of this datatype.

The DECFLOAT gives a precise magnitude of the number where FLOAT only carries the value in an integer and therefor has rounding issues.

Note. the DECFLOAT in Db2 comes in two sizes, therefore RPG need both implementations

In generel any datatype in Db2 should have a native counter part in RPG and vise versa.

Use Case:

create table items (
id int generated always as identity primary key,
description varchar(64),
size decfloat,
uom char(5)
);

insert into items (description, size, uom) values('Sand' , 12455 , 'KG');

insert into items (description, size, uom) values('Gold' , 0.0092 , 'GRAM');

Select * from items;

    This request is still a candidate to be an enhancement for the RPG compiler.

    The COMMON Europe Advisory Council (CEAC) has reviewed this requirement and recommends that IBM view this as a medium priority requirement that should be addressed.

    Background: The CEAC members have a broad range of experience in working with small and medium-sized IBM i customers. CEAC has a crucial role in working with IBM i development to help assess the value and impact of individual RFEs on the broader IBM i community and has therefore reviewed your RFE.

    To find out how CEAC help to shape the future of IBM i, see CEAC @ ibm.biz/BdYSYj and the article "The Five Hottest IBM i RFEs Of The Quarter" at ibm.biz/BdYSZT

    The CAAC has reviewed this requirement and recommends that IBM view this as a medium priority requirement that should be addressed. With IBM emphasizing AI interactions, it is important that this RFE be considered for support.

    If this RFE is implemented, it will only affect the RPG compiler. If additional enhancements are needed for things like RUNQRY, display files, or printer files, please open additional RFEs.

    Considerations must also be done how to implement it in display and printer files ( DDS ).
    And in files defined using DDS.
