Pre-install ACS Client on IBM i IFS for use by IBM i

As the ACS product can be run natively by IBM i, then it would be ideal if it was automatically installed in one standard place on the system by default.

Use Case:

Using the IBM ACS client to (acsbundle.jar) to transfer / translate a Db2 for i file to a spreadsheet in the IFS

    Hello IBM_Systems_Development,

The information where ACS is placed on IBM i is not available in the PTF coverletters. Is it possible to add that information in there?

I know from experience that people who read coverletters do exist.

    Greetings Rudi

The following PTFs are now available which satisfy this request:
    V7R4M0 SI71900
    V7R3M0 SI71934
    V7R2M0 SI71935

These PTFs will place the ACS files at: /QIBM/ProdData/Access/ACS/Base

To take advantage of an easier way to apply ACS updates on your PC, see section "5.2 Setting up an IBM i Update Location" in GettingStarted.

The CAAC has reviewed this requirement and recommends that IBM view this as a high priority requirement that is important to be addressed. This would make it easier to have the latest version of ACS available on IBM i without legal issues. The functions within ACS that can be run on IBM i would be available without having to go find the download from the web.

The COMMON Europe Advisory Council (CEAC) has reviewed this requirement and recommends that IBM view this as a medium priority requirement that should be addressed.

CEAC has a crucial role in working with IBM i development to help assess the value and impact of individual RFEs on the broader IBM i community and has therefore reviewed your RFE.

IBM has received this requirement and is evaluating it. A response will be provided when evaluation is complete.

    Hello Steve,

    This is an excellent idea.

As I have understood there is a legal issue with getting ACS updated automatically on the clients, so maybe the PTF process can be used to update the IBM i ACS installed on IBM i. Wkth that, we would always have the latest version of IBM i ACS on IBM i and if clients refer to this version installed on IBM i, the need to update and the legal "thing" is also solved.

    Greetings Rudi
