Evolution de Rational Data Studio

Demande d'?volution de Data Studio

Situation actuelle :

Use Case:

Due to processing by IBM, this request was reassigned to have the following updated attributes:
Brand - Servers and Systems Software
    Product family - Programming Languages
Product - Developer for Power Systems

For recording keeping, the previous attributes were:
    Brand - Rational
Product family - Design & development
Product - Developer for Power Systems

RFE 44743 is currently rejected and our customer is asking for reconsideration. To complement the information he performed the following cost analysis :

Today, each time a connection is created, DS asks to define the scope of Oracle objects visibility with 1 setting 'catalog' than can acccept either "all" (all objects are visible, wheter the user has rights or not on these objects) or "user" value (only objects owned by the user are visible).

At AG2R LA MONDIALE, no connection to databases is established through users owning objects. The connections are established through "front users" who do not own any object, and for which "grant role" has been applied.

The consequence of this is that, :

    - 'all' choice is exposing all objects, including the one for which front users have no right, so too much information is provided here without any value, as it's not usable
    - 'user' choice is not usable as front users do not own any object

So the current workaround, as DS does not propose to use the 'role' mechanisms Oracle provide in standard (which is design choice which every DBA consider as irrelevant as it's a common standard), consists in selectioning 'all' option and filter each schema (70 filters to be setup one by one).

The workload for this is estimated like this :
    - adapt template worskpace to modify filters : 8 hours
    - package and deploy workspace : 16 hours
    - on each workstation, modify workspace : 2 hours, to be repeated on 15 stations

So a total workload of 56 hours for each change.

Yearly, 6 changes are performed, representing an additional cost of 336 hours, that can be evaluated to about $22K $/ year

Considering the significant cost related to this work around, AG2R LA MONDIALE, IBM reference for Rational, is asking for reconsideration of this RFE.

Thank you for submitting the RFE. We have determined that the RFEs should be assigned to the IBM Data Studio team. Unfortunately IBM Data Studio is not on the RFE Community although we recommend you contact tech support for IBM Data Studio to submit the RFE.

This RFE is consistent with our strategy and product roadmap and IBM is continuing to evaluate.
