This portal is to open public enhancement requests against IBM Power Systems products, including IBM i. To view all of your ideas submitted to IBM, create and manage groups of Ideas, or create an idea explicitly set to be either visible by all (public) or visible only to you and IBM (private), use the IBM Unified Ideas Portal (https://ideas.ibm.com).
We invite you to shape the future of IBM, including product roadmaps, by submitting ideas that matter to you the most. Here's how it works:
Start by searching and reviewing ideas and requests to enhance a product or service. Take a look at ideas others have posted, and add a comment, vote, or subscribe to updates on them if they matter to you. If you can't find what you are looking for,
Post an idea.
Get feedback from the IBM team and other customers to refine your idea.
Follow the idea through the IBM Ideas process.

The current Save While Active function has a number of limitations that mean in many cases, the objects can not be saved whilst they are in use by another job.
I would like the option to be able to save them no matter locks or updates are taking place.
What I believe the industry calls a Ragged Save.
An IBM i customer has the need to run there systems 24 x 7 but would still like to take a daily save.
They do not have a budget for an HA solution where they can run the backup.
They understand that the backup will not be a "consistent" copy of their system but need a backup to meet their business compliance standards.

IBM believes that the request described has been solved and is available with V5R3M0. Specify SAVACTWAIT(value1 *NOCMTBDY value3) on the SAVLIB, SAVOBJ, or SAVCHGOBJ command. For more information, see the help text for these commands and the Backing up your system topic in the IBM i Knowledge Center.
That's great, how did I not know about *NOCMTBDY
Thanks.
Please close this RFE as function already exists, user too dumb to realise it :-)
IBM needs more information to further assess your Request for Enhancement.
Have you tried the *NOCMTBDY value for the Save active wait time parameter? This value was introduced in V5R3, and was described in a Redbook entitled 'Ragged Save While Active'. Current documentation can be found in the Backing up your system topic in the IBM i Knowledge Center.
