Add SQL Option for Timestamp Format

The Db2 for i format of Timestamp is yyyy-mm-dd-hh.mm.ss.nnnnnn
The ODBC and JDBC format of timestamp is yyyy-mm-dd hh:mm:ss.nnnnnn
It should be possible to change the Db2 Timestamp format similar to how it can be done for date and time so that Db2 can provide the timestamp in the same format as JDBC and ODBC.

Use Case:

We're using SQL JSON_Table to provide the data from a table as JSON via a REST based Web Service to our Web Based User Interface built with React (Javascript). When providing Timestamp data, the Db2 for i format of Timestamp doesn't fit the Javascript way of dealing with timestamps. Javascript is using the same timestamp format as JDBC and ODBC.

IBM will use this request as input to planning but no commitment is made or implied. This request will be updated in the future if IBM implements it.

I wonder if VARCHAR_FORMAT would work for this - it is similar to TIMESTAMP_FORMAT but produces a character representation from various data types, using a format string. The documentation gives this syntax when converting dates or timestamps:

    VARCHAR_FORMAT(date-or-timestamp-expression, format-string1) - format-string1 is optional. There's also something about locales that I couldn't quickly get working.

This example gives the desired format as a character representation:

    select varchar_format(current timestamp, 'YYYY-MM-DD HH24.MI.SS.FF6') from sysibm/sysdummy1

resulted in 2019-02-21 16.20.33.495845 this afternoon.

This isn't a timestamp data type, it is a character representation of one - does this do what you want?

The COMMON Europe Advisory Council (CEAC) has reviewed this requirement and recommends that IBM view this as a high priority requirement that is important to address.

Background: The CEAC members have a broad range of experience in working with small and medium-sized IBM i customers. CEAC has a crucial role in working with IBM i development to help assess the value and impact of individual RFEs on the broader IBM i community and has therefore reviewed your RFE.

To find out how CEAC help to shape the future of IBM i, see CEAC @ ibm.biz/BdYSYj and the article "The Five Hottest IBM i RFEs Of The Quarter" at ibm.biz/BdYSZT
