BRMS logs in /tmp

The BRMS flight recorder and tape logs are currently generated in the /tmp folder of the IFS. This is a problem if the system is IPLd directly after the backup in the BRMS settings and the system startup program runs the CLRTMP process in the startup program. In this scenario, the BRMS logs are cleared and problem determination is hindered as the logs are gone. Please create a /home/BRMS or /QBRMS directory to store these logs. The self-purge feature of the logs works great on systems that have more limited IPLs.

Use Case:

We would like to be able to take advantage of the CLRTMP program in the startup without clearing the BRMS logs.

IBM believes that the request described has been solved and is available with the March 2020 BRMS PTFs (7.2 - SI71973, 7.3 - SI71974, and 7.4 - SI71975). For additional information on this support reference the following BRMS wiki page: https://helpsystemswiki.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/IWT/pages/383844398/Flight+Recorder+Log+Files+New+Location

The CAAC has reviewed this requirement and recommends that IBM view this as a medium priority requirement, but it is important to be addressed. Logs should not be temporary. One could copy them, but realistically no one would remember to do this.

Background: The COMMON Americas Advisory Council (CAAC) members have a broad range of experience in working with small and medium-sized IBM i customers. CAAC has a key role in working with IBM i development to help assess the value and impact of individual RFEs on the broader IBM i community, and has therefore reviewed your RFE.

The BRMS team will use this request as input to planning but no commitment is made or implied. This request will be updated in the future if IBM implements it. The BRMS team will use votes and comments from others in the community to help prioritize this request.

The BRMS team has received the requirement and is evaluating it. The BRMS team will provide a response after evaluation is complete.
