Nav4i viewing logs/msgq

We use Nav4i al the time, when viewing the system logs/message queues the time zone of the PC running the browser is taken into account. This is misleading to say the least.

Use Case:

When trying to analyse a problem we were running Nav4i in a PC in a different time zone then IBM i. When viewing the QSYSOPR message queue the time zone was taken into account, when viewing the joblog, the time zone was no longer taken into account.

The CAAC has reviewed this requirement and recommends that IBM view this as a medium priority requirement that should be addressed. For Sys Admins, it is best to use System Time consistently to avoid time zone issues.

Background: The COMMON Americas Advisory Council (CAAC) members have a broad range of experience in working with small and medium-sized IBM i customers. CAAC has a key role in working with IBM i development to help assess the value and impact of individual RFEs on the broader IBM i community, and has therefore reviewed your RFE.

I can see how having the time un the local browser time zone would be useful on occasion, especially for a non-admin end user. However, I agree with Rudi, for a SysAdmin that has to look at other interfaces that show system time, this adjustment can be confusing.

If it is easy to do, I would suggest a switch on the interface to allow selection of local or system time. If this is not practical, then I would suggest you default to System Time.
