Secure Kerberos keytab file

All single sign on interface can deal with *PUBLIC=*EXCLUDE for the NAS keytab file :
/QIBM/UserData/OS400/NetworkAuthentication/keytab/krb5.keytab

However, if you want to enable SSO for IBM Navigator for i SSO will not work with that specific setting. You must either set *PUBLIC to *R or grant user QLWISVR *R access.

I believe this is a design fault. The underlying Java class Krb5LoginModule (of the IBM JDK) should be able to deal with this. Maybe swap profile or so.

Use Case:

Enable SSO for IBM i Navigator for i without making compromises to /QIBM/UserData/OS400/NetworkAuthentication/keytab/krb5.keytab.

IBM believes that the request described has been partially solved/delivered. There are technology restrictions for swapping profiles so the best solution is for the IBM Navigator for i profile QLWISVR (which has password *NONE so it can't be used to sign on) to have *R access to the krb5.keytab file. This is more restrictive than giving *PUBLIC *R. The *R access is granted by running with the following PTFs:
    IBM i 7.4 - SI72017 and SI72016
    IBM i 7.3 - SI72015 and SI72014
    IBM i 7.2 - SI72025 and SI72018

IBM has received the requirement and is evaluating it. IBM will provide a response after evaluation is complete.
