IBM Power Ideas Portal

This portal is to open public enhancement requests against IBM Power Systems products, including IBM i. To view all of your ideas submitted to IBM, create and manage groups of Ideas, or create an idea explicitly set to be either visible by all (public) or visible only to you and IBM (private), use the IBM Unified Ideas Portal (https://ideas.ibm.com).

Shape the future of IBM!

We invite you to shape the future of IBM, including product roadmaps, by submitting ideas that matter to you the most. Here's how it works:

Search existing ideas

Start by searching and reviewing ideas and requests to enhance a product or service. Take a look at ideas others have posted, and add a comment, vote, or subscribe to updates on them if they matter to you. If you can't find what you are looking for,

Post your ideas
  1. Post an idea.

  2. Get feedback from the IBM team and other customers to refine your idea.

  3. Follow the idea through the IBM Ideas process.

To ADD(CHG)SVCCPYD command, provide the capability to enter more than 128 entries in VRTDSKRNG parameter.

The VRTDSKRNG parameter of ADDSVCCPYD/CHGSVCCPYD commands allows entering up to 128 volumes ranges.
The RFE is to increase this maximum value or provide a way (for instance through a user space as for SAVLIB command and LIB parameter) to specify more than 128 volumes ranges.

Use Case:

The command applies when creating or updating SVC copy descriptions in a PowerHA for i cluster. The VRTDSKRNG parameter receives the volumes ids as set by the SVC Disk Storage System the IBM i node is connected to. Those volumes ids are controlled by the SVC, and depending on the active configuration, volumes ids might receive or not continuous values. With the increasing capacities of IBM i nodes, it will happen that such a node has more than 128 volumes with ids which are not continuous and for which ranges are only for 1 volume. In our recent case, here is the list of the volumes ids that the SVC provides:

The PowerHA team does not intend to provide a solution to this request at this time, so it is being closed. We recommend following best practices when configuring the storage device which results in contiguous ranges for volumes from the storage device; this allows for entering multiple volumes in a single volume range entry by specifying different start and end volume numbers for the volume range.

For example, the following command specifies 100 volumes in just two volume range entries:
    ADDSVCCPYD .... VRTDSKRNG((100 150 *ALL) (201 251 *ALL))
