IBM Power Ideas Portal

This portal is to open public enhancement requests against IBM Power Systems products, including IBM i. To view all of your ideas submitted to IBM, create and manage groups of Ideas, or create an idea explicitly set to be either visible by all (public) or visible only to you and IBM (private), use the IBM Unified Ideas Portal (https://ideas.ibm.com).

Shape the future of IBM!

We invite you to shape the future of IBM, including product roadmaps, by submitting ideas that matter to you the most. Here's how it works:

Search existing ideas

Start by searching and reviewing ideas and requests to enhance a product or service. Take a look at ideas others have posted, and add a comment, vote, or subscribe to updates on them if they matter to you. If you can't find what you are looking for,

Post your ideas
  1. Post an idea.

  2. Get feedback from the IBM team and other customers to refine your idea.

Prepare the common OUTPUT parameter for all CL commands getting system information, *PRINT and/or *OUTFILE

Prepare the common OUTPUT parameter for all CL commands getting system information by either or both following extension.
Currently there are 2 types of CL commands, *PRINT or *OUTFILE for the parameter and it is not standardized.

A. Extend all CL commands getting system information to be able to specify *OUTFILE for OUTPUT parameter.
For example the following CL commands, CFGTCP, CHGFTPA, CHGHTTPA, DSPLIB, DSPNETA, DSPDTAARA, WRKDSKSTS, WRKRPYLE

B. Extend all CL commands getting system information to be able to specify *PRINT for OUTPUT parameter.
For example the following CL commands, RSTUSRPRF, CHGFTPA, CHGHTTPA, WRKSBSD SBSD(*ALL), WRKUSRPRF(*ALL)

Use Case:

To make system design document, we need to use both types of CL commands.
If all of the CL commands have the common parameter, it will be more efficient.
Currently it is inefficient because we need to screenshot and collecting information manually

We have no plans on enhancing CL commands as stated in this RFE. We have already provided the information requested for some of these commands but leveraging IBM i Services. If there are specific commands that are required, please open separate RFE and we will deliver new Services with SQL to provide the requested information. Its best to have a individual RFE along with the business reason one piece of data is more important than another so that we can prioritize the delivery of these updates.

I agree with the intent of this RFE, but I would rather see IBM invest in IBM i Services to get the information via SQL rather than fixing all the commands to make the OUTPUT parameter consistent.

The CEAC has reviewed this requirement and recommends that IBM view this as a “nice to have” LOW priority feature.

Background: The COMMON Europe Advisory Council (CEAC) members have a broad range of experience in working with small and medium-sized IBM i customers. CEAC has a crucial role in working with IBM i development to help assess the value and impact of individual RFEs on the broader IBM i community and has therefore reviewed your RFE.

To find out how CEAC help to shape the future of IBM i, see CEAC @ ibm.biz/BdYSYj and the article "The Five Hottest IBM i RFEs Of The Quarter" at ibm.biz/BdYSZT

API's exist for this… I prefer that IBM invests its time in things for which no alternatives exist.
