Add Encrypt File Share option to Navigator for i

In 7.4 IBM added SMBv3 support and with it the option to encrypt a File Share (End to End Encryption from IBM i to client OS)

SMBv3 is turned on by default, encryption is not.

To enable encryption you either need to use the IBi NetServer APIs or install PTF SI70518 and create the Go Nets menu.

Go Nets has the extra options to enable Encryption as an option on the NetServer per se and then for each share created on that netserver


Use Case:

An average client that wishes to configure an encrypted share needs to either learn how to program again the Netserver APIs or create the English Only Go Nets menu

    This requirement has been delivered as part of the new IBM Navigator for i GUI interface. Details on how to access and use this new interface can be found at: https://www.ibm.com/support/pages/node/6483299

    The support has been delivered on IBM i 7.3 & 7.4 and can be obtained by loading and installing the Latest HTTP PTF Group

    IBM i 7.3 - Group PTF SF99722 level 32 or higher
    IBM i 7.4 - Group PTF SF99662 level 13 or higher

    The CAAC has reviewed this requirement and recommends that IBM view this as a high priority requirement that is important to be addressed. Because the community should be making more use of security features, making encryption easy and easily customizable, like new DCM, should be top priority -- in general, folks tend to think "It's already encrypted, isn't it?"

    Background: The COMMON Americas Advisory Council (CAAC) members have a broad range of experience in working with small and medium-sized IBM i customers. CAAC has a key role in working with IBM i development to help assess the value and impact of individual RFEs on the broader IBM i community, and has therefore reviewed your RFE.

    The COMMON Europe Advisory Council (CEAC) has reviewed this requirement and recommends that IBM view this as a high priority requirement that is important to address.

    The need to have multilanguage support for this key security feature necessitates that it is a built into the core part of the OS or Navigator for IBM i. It is a significant omission that is not available in the GUI today. As we are moving to an API economy with greater interconnections, security is paramount.

    Background: The CEAC members have a broad range of experience in working with small and medium-sized IBM i customers. CEAC has a crucial role in working with IBM i development to help assess the value and impact of individual RFEs on the broader IBM i community and has therefore reviewed your RFE.
