MOVMEDBRM wrongly changes location during I/O error

When an error occurs during the execution of the MOVMEDBRM command the volume location is changed. ex an error CPA401E received by the command and answering C the move is validated.


Use Case:

When you have a problem with the I/O station of a tape library, full or not closed or other hdw problem, the movmedbrm command is genertaing the message CPA401E. When you responds C to the message the command completes and changes the volume(s) location even when these are still in the tape library. So when the hdw problem is resolved a subsequent MOVMEDBRM will not move these volumes.

    The BRMS team does not intend to provide a solution to this request at this time, so it is being closed. Unfortunately, BRMS is not involved in the message processing for the CPA401E, this happens between the device and the library manager and is outside of the BRMS control. Here is the BRMS wiki reference describing the different scenarios for setting up move verification and confirmation which present the available BRMS work-around solutions for the described problem.

    We had a PMR 31024 but it was to moniqtor for the message. Can't find and don't racaal to created a PMR for this.

    IBM needs more information to further assess your Request for Enhancement. Did you already contact your service provider to open a PMR and they instructed you to open an RFE as they told you it was not a bug? This seems like a defect.
