SQL view for Netserver info

With the newer OS releases for IBM i there have been views created to look at many of the components of the OS. It would be nice if there was a view to look at netserver info. Like netserver attributes, as well as file shares on the system. Currently you can use API's to get this information programatically but it is not as simple as it would be if there was a view.

Use Case:

Would be able to quickly run a SQL query against the view to look up details like what is the setting for Send Browse Announcement or other attributes for the netserver to make sure they stay in compliance per company policy. The same for file shares, can quickly compile a list of all file shares on the system and if they are in compliance for the company.

The CAAC has reviewed this IBM Idea and recommends that IBM view this as a medium priority Idea that should be addressed.

This change will certanly add value but in the context of the larger needs. This will be usefull from a Security perspective and other multitud of things.

Background: The COMMON Americas Advisory Council (CAAC) members have a broad range of experience in working with small and medium-sized IBM i customers. CAAC has a key role in working with IBM i development to help assess the value and impact of individual IBM Ideas on the broader IBM i community and has therefore reviewed your Idea.

IBM will use this request as input to planning but no commitment is made or implied. This request will be updated in the future if IBM implements it.

IBM has received the requirement and is evaluating it. IBM will provide a response after evaluation is complete.

In fall 2020 with IBM i 7.4 PTF Group level 10 and IBM i 7.3 PTF Group level 22, we delivered SERVER_SHARE_INFO, which should satisfy the file share request. We will be evaluating whether to provide a service to return Netserver attributes.
