This portal is to open public enhancement requests against IBM Power Systems products, including IBM i. To view all of your ideas submitted to IBM, create and manage groups of Ideas, or create an idea explicitly set to be either visible by all (public) or visible only to you and IBM (private), use the IBM Unified Ideas Portal (https://ideas.ibm.com).
We invite you to shape the future of IBM, including product roadmaps, by submitting ideas that matter to you the most. Here's how it works:
Start by searching and reviewing ideas and requests to enhance a product or service. Take a look at ideas others have posted, and add a comment, vote, or subscribe to updates on them if they matter to you. If you can't find what you are looking for,
Post an idea.
Get feedback from the IBM team and other customers to refine your idea.
Follow the idea through the IBM Ideas process.

For a project a need to get a .png image into a PDF file (including some text) generated by Infoprint Server. The Infoprint Server is not documented to support .png images as this is only something that can be physically printed on an IPDS printer that has the support to print that type of image. Infoprint Server is not such a printer.
On the IBM i, Host Print Transform (HPT) only supports <bilevel B/W> TIFF, JPEG and GIF images. HPT does not support PNG images. If the AFPRSC keyword is used to include a PNG image (component ID 65) or PDF in the spooled file, the file must be printed to an IPDS printer (physical, not digital) that has support to print the image, or another transform, to print it.
Again, Infoprint Server does not have the capability to support a .png image via the AFPRSC DDS keyword.

The CAAC has reviewed this requirement and recommends that IBM view this as a high priority requirement that is important to be addressed. .PNG is such a prevalent image type that the IBM i community does indeed need to have it in the HPT support with the AFPRSC PRTF keyword, similar to the .GIF support which has already been provided. Current work-around is for a .PNG to be converted to a .GIF.

Tosh, I agree - this is an issue with printing that I have run into in our work, as well. General AFP support for PNG has been around for many years now, we need it in HPT on IBM i using the AFPRSC keyword - ah, that is the RPG connection, right?
I also see that the TIFF transform does not handle PNGs - that is also needed. I'll see about putting in an RFE for that, but I hope it also makes it into consideration of this RFE.
Wonder if this is really an RPG enhancement?
RPG will essentially use functions that HPT supports or otherwise IBM printing APIs expose.
I really feel this RFE is mis-categorized.
