add open file in (QDMLOPNF) to GET_JOB_INFO table function

please add to GET_JOB_INFO table function the jobs open file information as provided with API QDMLOPNF

Use Case:

none of the current SQL functions provide this information which will be helpful when looking for certain file information across jobs on the system.
the ACTIVE_JOB_INFO table function provides some SQL "file" details, but nothing for "regular" open files.

The QSYS2.ACTIVE_JOB_INFO table function has an OPEN_FILES column that was delivered in fall 2020 with IBM i 7.4 PTF Group level 10 and IBM i 7.3 PTF Group level 22. In addition, the QSYS2.OPEN_FILES table function was added, which lists all the open files for a job.

BM will use this request as input to planning but no commitment is made or implied. This request will be updated in the future if IBM implements it. IBM will use votes and comments from others in the community to help prioritize this request.

with this RFE i was referencing returning:
Number of open files or a job. The field QDMTLOOF "number of open files available to be returned" is in the system include file.
This could be included in the *DETAILED data returned from ACTIVE_JOB_INFO and with GET_JOB_INFO in general.
I could see the future there being service just for all file information for a specific job

We need more background on what your requirement is. The QDMLOPNF API returns a list of files. If this is what you actually need, a new service would need to be created since the current job services (GET_JOB_INFO and ACTIVE_JOB_INFO) return only one row of information for a single job.

We have had the OBJECT_LOCK_INFO service for many years if you need to find who has a specific object locked.

    SELECT JOB_NAME, LOCK_STATE
    FROM QSYS2.OBJECT_LOCK_INFO
    WHERE OBJECT_TYPE = '*FILE' AND SYSTEM_OBJECT_SCHEMA = 'R3PR2DATA' AND SYSTEM_OBJECT_NAME = 'ZDRTAB'
    ORDER BY LOCK_STATE;

With the DB PTF Groups IBM i 7.4 SF99704 Level 7 and IBM i 7.3 SF99703 Level 18, a new table function service has been added, JOB_LOCK_INFO, which returns information about all locks held by a specific job. This, too, seems to be a possible solution for what you are asking for.

Would either of these existing services satisfy your use case? If not please describe what file information you need and what decisions you would make if you had easy access to that data.

The CEAC has reviewed this requirement and recommends that IBM view this as a MEDIUM priority requirement that should be addressed.

Background: The COMMON Europe Advisory Council (CEAC) members have a broad range of experience in working with small and medium-sized IBM i customers. CEAC has a crucial role in working with IBM i development to help assess the value and impact of individual RFEs on the broader IBM i community and has therefore reviewed your RFE.

To find out how CEAC help to shape the future of IBM i, see CEAC @ ibm.biz/BdYSYj and the article "The Five Hottest IBM i RFEs Of The Quarter" at ibm.biz/BdYSZT
