Request to enhance Digital Certificate Manager to be able to manage Java Keystores

Would like to have the ability to use DCM (Digital Certificate Manager) to be able to manage (to create/change/manage/delete) Java keystores. This would include the ability to manage existing java keystores created by java commands. And to be able to do this as easily as it can be done with the system keystore or any keystore made by DCM.

Use Case:

For example. We have a java keystore that is created by an application and it resides in our IFS on the system. Right now we have no tool on the system that can do things like add or remove certificates in that keystore. The application does not have the ability to manage its own keystore, and we would rather have DCM manage it anyway, letting the IBMi OS system admins control it.

The request to have DCM directly interact with Java keystores is not being considered at this time. Although DCM does not operate directly with Java Keystores, there is an alternative method. DCM supports importing certificates that reside in PKCS#12 files and exporting DCM keystores into PKCS#12 files. PKCS#12 is a portable keystore type that also works with Java. Using the QykmImportKeyStore API, a customer application can import the Java keystore residing in PKCS#12 format into the CMS keystore type used by DCM.

IBM does not intend to provide a solution to this request at this time, so it is being closed. This would be a nice ease of use feature however this team has a long list of higher priority requirements, so this request is not likely to be implemented anytime soon.

The CEAC has reviewed this requirement and recommends that IBM view this as a MEDIUM priority requirement that should be addressed.

Background: The COMMON Europe Advisory Council (CEAC) members have a broad range of experience in working with small and medium-sized IBM i customers. CEAC has a crucial role in working with IBM i development to help assess the value and impact of individual RFEs on the broader IBM i community and has therefore reviewed your RFE.

To find out how CEAC help to shape the future of IBM i, see CEAC @ ibm.biz/BdYSYj and the article "The Five Hottest IBM i RFEs Of The Quarter" at ibm.biz/BdYSZT

IBM has received the requirement and is evaluating it. IBM will provide a response after evaluation is complete.
