SQL Write to IFS

Please make writing to the IFS from SQL part of DB2 for i.

Use Case:

There is no general purpose way to write to the IFS using SQL. I have character data in an IBM i database tables and want to use SQL manipulate, sort, edit and create a text file that can be written to the IFS. This should support binary data as well as character data.
I can create a table with a blob field and write to it with SQL but cannot get it to the IFS

I hope IBM will consider the possibility to write directly into a stmf from a STMT sql Insert. I am at 75 and I must use "cursor " for write IFS in Rpgle. I use a lot files IFS

BM will use this request as input to planning but no commitment is made or implied. This request will be updated in the future if IBM implements it. IBM will use votes and comments from others in the community to help prioritize this request.

The CEAC has reviewed this requirement and recommends that IBM view this as a HIGH priority requirement that is important to address. This is a feature that should be available "out of the box" as opposed to depending on open solutions.

Background: The COMMON Europe Advisory Council (CEAC) members have a broad range of experience in working with small and medium-sized IBM i customers. CEAC has a crucial role in working with IBM i development to help assess the value and impact of individual RFEs on the broader IBM i community and has therefore reviewed your RFE.

To find out how CEAC help to shape the future of IBM i, see CEAC @ ibm.biz/BdYSYj and the article "The Five Hottest IBM i RFEs Of The Quarter" at ibm.biz/BdYSZT

The CAAC has reviewed this requirement and recommends that IBM not implement this request. Multiple solutions already exist.

This can also be done using Open Access:RPG - Jon Paris & Susan Gantner have examples of this, as I believe Barbara Morris already has published in a simple example.

There are workarounds for that - but it will be nice too have the following in QSYSTOOLS done by IBM:

I agree that this (and the companion Read from IFS) would be nice to have. But folks should be aware that writing is already possible by using the tool supplied by Birgitta Hauser which you can download here: https://github.com/BirgittaHauser/Write-to-IFS-with-SQL

Would a UDTF that provides textual read of IFS files be what you're looking for? If you read textual files with a length of say 8k lines or less, would that be good enough? Or do you want a LOB with a huge potential dataSet length?
